When I hit 21, all my hard work led to me becoming the Vice President at a large roofing business in Hampton Roads. That role taught me a lot and boosted my confidence. I realized that if you work hard and take responsibility, you can go far. Soon after, I decided to start my own company to make something I owned.

I’ve been working in Hampton Roads for over 50 years, and I’ve seen roofing companies come and go. They always promise roofs that “will never leak,” but roofing is all about trust and doing what you say. If you ask me, being there for your customers is the most important thing.
That is why, after years in the business, I wanted a company that fulfills its promises. So, I started Flat Roof by Pegram. It’s not just another roofing company; it’s built on lessons learned and staying true to what matters. I have my own crew without any subcontractors at your service, because for me, quality and trust matter a lot!
My roofing company grew significantly in the 80s and early 90s, running more than two dozen trucks and handling both small-scale residential and large-scale commercial projects. While it may appear that I’ve got all the success that I worked so hard for, the one thing I learned from all this is that “bigger isn’t always better!” I came to realize the importance of focusing on quality and being responsible, rather than focusing on quantity or the number of projects I have done.

When I look back on my journey — from earning a dollar an hour as a teenager to building a company rooted in honesty and craftsmanship — I see more than just a roofing business. I see a legacy.
